WAKING THE GIANT

As Waking the Giant’ is a global ecumenical initiative of The Lutheran World Federation (LWF). It aims to empower churches to contribute effectively to the 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development. The initiative provides churches and church-related actors with tools and training to relate their on-going work to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In the context of the global ‘Waking the Giant’ network, churches and church-related actors come together for experience exchange, mutual learning and joint action. LWF also supports churches and ecumenical partners in selected countries to set up implementation mechanisms for taking stock of their existing work in relation to the SDGs and engage in joint planning for direct action and advocacy.

VISSION AND MISSION

Vision Statement United in the common task of all Christians to manifest God’s unconditional love for all people, the ACT Alliance works towards a world community where all God’s creation lives with dignity, justice, peace and full respect for human rights and the environment..

CORE VALUES

ACT members are bound together by core values that are grounded in our Christian faith and which guide our humanitarian, development and advocacy work. Upholding the dignity, uniqueness and intrinsic worth of every human being as created in the image of God is central to who we are and critical to the work we do. ACT seeks to respond without any form of discrimination and exclusion to human suffering irrespective of race, gender, belief, nationality, ethnicity, age, disability or political persuasion. Our work seeks to promote a participative, open environment, enabling responsible working relationships where communities are central to identifying local needs and assets, and in decision making — determining priorities, inclusive approaches and mechanisms for response. Being true to our values requires ACT to uphold high standards of accountability, mutuality and transparency — recognising our accountability to those we seek to serve, to those who support us, to each other and ultimately to God.

ARTS AND CULTURE

Waking the Giant (WtG) has made a significant impact by organizing a sports tournament in Tarime, funded by Norwegian Church Aid (NCA), to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. The event, which conveyed the key message “Eradicate FGM, Protect the Girl Child,” HAMTA FC was the first runner, REBU FC second, and Silali United third, with all teams receiving trophies.
